The Eaglewood School is a 7-16 Academy, judged ‘good’ in the Ofsted Inspection of July 2019, which provides a safe and supportive environment for young people aged between 7 and 16 who are trying to overcome their emotional and medical barriers to learning. Sometimes, these barriers generate behavioural challenges that also result in them struggling to succeed in a mainstream school.
Teaching at The Eaglewood School is in non-threatening, small groups with plentiful adult support from a small number of multi-skilled teachers carefully selected for their suitability to work with vulnerable children and to build positive relationships of trust with them; young people often lacking confidence and inter-personal skills and, who from their own life experiences, are frequently distrusting of adults. Learning groups generally do not exceed 6 in number and are determined by a child’s age, ability, and learning needs.
Working with a child’s home school, The Eaglewood School offers both full time and part time temporary placements through which children are supported to develop strategies to help them flourish when they ultimately return to their home school setting. Admission to Eaglewood can only be made by a referral from a child’s mainstream school, their local authority or local authority SEN department. It is not possible for parents to apply for a place directly to the school.
